Atari Inc., the U.S. branch of the company best known for games like Asteroids and Super Breakout, has filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The company said in a statement that the move is a strategic maneuver to sever ties with Atari SA, the French branch of the company.
