Sand Dollar City
DoughMain™, the first and only service to combine family organization and financial education into one simple and convenient platform, announced today the open beta launch of the company’s free-to-play massively multiplayer virtual world, Sand Dollar City. Set in a series of underwater domes, Sand Dollar City invites players ages eight and up to explore mysterious caves, prepare and sell exotic sweets and revitalize their family’s candy shop.Complementing the game’s adventure elements, Sand Dollar City closely follows the financial education curriculum set forth by the National Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy. Players learn fundamentals of earning, saving, budgeting, spending, smart shopping, credit, and more as they attempt to upgrade their business and balance their purchases between the luxury clothing and furniture they want and the equipment they need to succeed.
Designed by game industry veterans and focus-tested with a wide range of teens and tweens, Sand Dollar City wraps popular game mechanics including exploration, collecting, harvesting, and more into a new and unique IP.
“We feel confident that Sand Dollar City stands atop the MMO world as the premier underwater candy-making adventure,” said DoughMain Director of Game Development Greg Zesinger.
“Our goal with Sand Dollar City has always been to deliver a fun, free and safe experience for our players, while helping teach important financial concepts through engaging gameplay,” said DoughMain CEO Ken Damato. “With the help of an expert team of real-world teachers and educators, we’ve been diligent about weaving lessons about money seamlessly into the underwater world. The educational elements feel like natural extensions of gameplay, and we’re very excited to see players dive in and give it a try.”
Available online at www.SandDollarCity.com, Sand Dollar City is part of DoughMain’s trio of interactive properties, including www.TheFunVault.com, featuring Flash-based games for children ages five to eight, and www.IRuleMoney.com, an evolving site that will provide teens with answers to their important financial questions.
