Blacklight: Tango Down – NOW ON PSN

Blacklight-Tango-Down-E3-2010-Hands-On-2

Following a highly successful launch on Xbox 360 and Games for Windows – LIVE this summer, PlayStation gamers will now receive a fully-updated version of the game, along with PSN-exclusive content.  Adding to the futuristic shooter’s seven game types and four co-op missions, the PSN launch will include ‘Crossover’ a PSN-exclusive map, which draws players into the financial district just as it transforms into a war zone. Also exclusive to Blacklight: Tango Down’s PSN release is the ‘Join in Progress’ feature, which allows players to team up with their friends and enter matches without having to wait for an intermission. Additionally, UTV Ignition Entertainment will offer players a free tour of duty in the engaging Blacklight universe with a downloadable multiplayer demo that will be available on the PlayStation Network alongside the title’s release.

“Seeing the positive fan reception of Blacklight over the last few months as the game launched on XBLA and Games for Windows – LIVE has been truly inspiring,”  “We spent the summer listening to fan feedback and fine-tuning the game to make sure we’re delivering the most immersive shooter experience possible, while keeping the bargain price of just 15 bucks.  We’re incredibly happy with the final result and know fans will enjoy the game more than ever before.”

- Jared Gerritzen, Lead Designer at Zombie Studios.

In Blacklight: Tango Down, players are equipped with high-tech, futuristic gear that makes combat fascinating and surreal. Its weapon customization system allows for trillions of different configurations that deliver unlimited adaptability and variety of gameplay.  Each player is also equipped with a Hyper Reality Visor (HRV), an advanced imaging system in the player’s Heads-up Display that detects nearby enemy and friendly forces and relays the information back to players, giving them immediate battlefield intelligence. Blacklight: Tango Down is a fast-paced, action-oriented first-person shooter that marks the first release of what will be a multi-platform entertainment franchise. Beyond the video game, a BlackLight feature film from Twentieth Century Fox and comic book series are currently in development. Designed to bring a fun, absorbing, and high quality AAA multiplayer experience to DLG venues, the game exists in a future between contemporary and sci-fi shooters – part Blade Runner and part Call of Duty.

Medal of Honor Review

Medal of Honor has been on leave now for about 3 years and when I heard about it returning to duty I was pleased, finally a new game that will show Battlefield Bad Company and the Call of Duty fan boys who really is the boss.
That was embraced even more so with the release of this trailer:

Oh how I was left disappointed!

First off I am not saying that the game is bad all the way through, but there were moments. The graphics were very nice too, the night sequences are nothing special but when that sun comes out then MOH shines.

I really enjoyed some of the missions, and others left me a little annoyed as I didn’t know where I was meant to be for the next scripted sequence to begin. Also I felt that the single player campaign was a little short if I’m honest and to be fair for a game that has been off the scene for about 3 years I thought the campaign could have been slightly better in parts.
Don’t get me wrong its great that Medal of Honor has left the WW2 surroundings alone but I don’t think this is a great game for the reboot, maybe that will change in the next Medal of Honor?

That said it is clear that the single player has been worked on and thought out a lot more so if you are not bothered about the online side of the game then rent the game/borrow from a friend and have a blast and some giggles too on the single player. Especially the “Friends from Afar” mission, it’s definitely one of my faves and is a fine example of the gore that you will not see in multiplayer.

OK so on to Multiplayer.

It’s no secret that the game was released with only 8 maps and these are pretty well designed, and despite the multiplayer being dealt with from the minds behind Bad Company you will not feel like you are playing one of their titles at all. The buildings will not explode and in fact the only similarity I can see with Medal of Honors Multiplayer and Battlefield is the fact you have soldiers, enemies, bullets and people on headsets playing music. One of the most annoying things on the multiplayer I thought was the fact that there was no way to see who was talking/shouting abuse/playing music or in my case crying. Unlike MW2 and other games you do not have a name that shows so you cant ignore them unless you want to mute your TV. The multiplayer is clearly built around the thought of team play and to be successful on each map you really do need to work as a team and not be a lone wolf. Not only has the exploding head shots gone from multiplayer but also the fact that there is no sliding to cover, the ability to lay down – which you would expect is needed for snipers to…snipe. Also unlike the single player, you cannot look around corners without stepping out which puts yourself and other team mates locations for all the Opposing Force/Taliban to see.

Also another thing that got me annoyed was just as you think you’ve ducked behind cover in time to dodge a bullet, it’s already too late, and with no kill cam you may find yourself shouting abuse at your screen or bemused as to how you were killed leading to the same mistake over and over, it is also apparent that the Taliban weaponry does feel a little more powerful and I am not sure if that is a personal belief or one of fact – you be the judge and let me know please.

In addition, the classes are also very basic and have a poorly executed upgrade system. No matter what class you choose, you’re severely unbalanced from the get-go. Other players are like bullet sponges with your weak starting weapons, and scoring kills will most likely only come from head shots

The major let down for me, if you haven’t guessed is the multiplayer. It really does feel rushed and that’s a shame as if worked on as much as the single player it really could have taken the lead and stole all them online gunslingers from Modern Warfare 2 but instead it leaves a lot of annoying people behind. Its also very apparent that players who have spent a good amount of time with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 1943 in the last year will have a much easier time getting used to things than Modern Warfare players will. You are going to need to learn each gun’s particular quirks, whether they be accuracy in close and at range, how important centre mass is to scoring kills, and how many kills you can pull off before reloading. There’s a constant juggling of factors involved. However, Battlefield players will need to adjust to much faster combat. Also, sniper rifles can work effectively at short range as bolt-action rifles, which is going to surprise unsuspecting assault classes. Also if you want ‘killstreaks’ then that’s not gonna happen, you do get ‘support actions’ but they just aren’t as good as a Nuke at 25 kills.

So I am gonna give this game a 6.5 because even though the story seems great and the graphics are really nice, I don’t see why anyone would want to leave Modern Warfare 2 or Battlefield Bad Company 2 for this attempt at a Medal of Honor reboot.

I do hope that CoD goes forward intime instead of backwards because i’m sick of playing in world war 2 now and want to play something like Battlefield 2142.

I’m going to guess this could be Sledgehammer’s game that will “extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre.”
