Both SEGA of America and SEGA Europe have today announced the launch of The House of the Dead 3 for PlayStation Network. This HD release of the classic horror arcade shooter, fully updated with trophies and PlayStation Move support, is available exclusively on the PlayStation Store today.

The House of the Dead 3 added a number of key features to the series’ creature-shooting roots, including interactive “rescue events” and a ranking and grading system that tracks each agent’s shot accuracy. This new console version of The House of the Dead 3 can be played using a PlayStation Move controller or a standard PlayStation controller, and as a special bonus SEGA has also included a unique reward for players to earn in-game: their very own virtual The House of the Dead 3 arcade cabinet for their PlayStation®Home space!

Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America said:

“We know not everyone has easy access to an arcade with a House of the Dead cabinet, so we wanted to give players around the world the chance to have that same experience in their living rooms.”

“We hope everyone enjoys The House of the Dead 3’s classic gameplay and new features, and look forward to introducing console owners to the fourth, previously arcade-only, installment later this spring.”

SEGA are pleased to announce Binary Domain ™, an original squad-based shooter by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator behind some of SEGA’s most well-known video game franchises, including the critically acclaimed Yakuza series. Binary Domain puts players in the middle of a fast-paced and intense battle for humanity in robot-invaded 2080 Tokyo. Fighting through the derelict lower levels of the city, players control an international peace-keeping squad that soon starts to question their surroundings and the choices they made. Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?

Toshihiro Nagoshi said:

“What I wanted to create this time was a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama”

“The keyword we have in mind for this project is “Life”. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows, but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”

Binary Domain’s central theme of life is also key to the way the innovative AI system is being developed. The highly advanced AI will make the battlefield a more compelling experience than ever before and players will have to plan their moves strategically and carefully in order to progress through the hostile environments of the game.

Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of Europe and SEGA of America stated:

“We are excited and proud to have Toshihiro Nagoshi working on Binary Domain,” commented “The game is being developed in Japan yet it is designed for a global audience and will take players into an exhilarating story wrapped into a unique, action-packed shooter experience in a fresh new setting.”

Over the years I have played many games but there is a select few I would love to see re-released. Mainly because the games can be expanded on to multiplayer action and basically because some, for their time were brilliant.

These are in no specific order but just as they shoot into my mind, so lets get started.

Game Number 1:

Tomcat Alley – this was one of the better Sega MegaCD titles, I had both MegaCD’s and thought that it was a great edition to the Sega Megadrive the intro was nearly 5 minutes long and made for a great game, especially considering the Playstation and XBOX consoles weren’t released at this point. The game took place in a full screen, full motion video, first-person perspective, and the player had to move quickly to launch missiles at enemy aircraft. It’s like HAWX but before HAWX was thought of….

The storyline was rather simple, you play as a Navy Pilot who had to bring peace and stability to the world after the cash-poor former Soviet Union sold off some of its military equipment to an unfriendly government.

Game Number 2:

The next classic game is one that has been released a few times but I feel needs some next-gen console boost and it is….ROBOCOP!

The game has been on many platforms from ZX Spectrum to PC and with the films being redone this would be great. The films were original set for tis year but appears to have been put back to 2013. Aslong as it stays away from looking too much like APB or Crackdown 2. I am not sure how the game would work but I only write about them not design them however this is what I would like to see in a RoboCop game.

I would love to see players fight crime in a similar pattern to APB you are either a cop or the bad guys but with the chance to switch sides, almost like the Paragon and Renegade actions of Mass Effect 2. Could you imagine if RoboCop turned bad guy for a change fighting against the law abiding RoboCops. I am sure things like this would hit off great especially as the films are being remade to an audience who is new to all things “Murphy”. The films were a great success in the late 80′s which even made it to the small screen with RoboCop TV Show. The last game release for RoboCop was in 2002 on the XBOX/PS2/GBA/GC but in all honesty, it didn’t look that great and didn’t hit it off with sales that good neither. RoboCop has been seen on the following over the years:

Arcade

Atari ST

Game Boy

Amiga

Commodore 64

Apple II

IBM PC compatible with MS DOS

MSX

NES

ZX Spectrum

Amstrad CPC,

Today is the 19th Birthday of someone who is special.

This animal has had many rings, more than Tolkien and he is the true Lord of The Rings. I am of course writing about Sonic. Sonic is 19 today and so here are some facts about our blue spikey friend.

Sonic is available to play ONLINE AND FOR FREE via a flash game. http://www.freesonic.org/

The first Sonic game was released on June 23, 1991.

Sonic was created as a 15 year old anthropomorphic hedgehog.

Sonic is actually 34 years old when that point above is taken into account.

Sonic was created to compete against the italian plumber and also Alex Kidd would be replaced by Sonic.

Sonic has a nemesis called Dr Robotnik who plans to take over the world!!

Sonic has a friend called Tails

Sonic has featured in many games, approximately 13.

Sonics theme song is called “It doesn’t matter”.

Several actors have lent their voices for Sonic the Hedgehog character over the years. The first among them was Takeshi Kusao for Sonic the Hedgehog. Later on Junichi Kanemaru started providing his voice with release of Sonic Adventure. Ryan Drummond was the first English game voice actor for the Sonic. He provided his voice for Sonic Adventure and continued to so till the year 2004. Jason Anthony Griffith took over from him after that.

Sonic’s shoes were inspired by Micheal Jackson’s thriller.

Sonic was originally meant to be a villain.

Robotnik was originally meant to be the hero.

Mighty the Armadillo was Sonic’s prototype design

Sonic was originally going to be a rabbit

Sonic was also the first non-Disney videogame character to be featured at Walt Disney World.

Sonic’s fave food is Chilli Dogs, apparently

So that said,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
